How to Handle Behavioral Based Interview Questions:

The thought of an interview can throw one into the state of intense fear. Because you can’t foretell what the interviewers might.

Most times interviewers might ask questions about our past experiences. If you fail to prepare a story or two in advance, you will be unable to say anything.


Another hot interview question is when an interviewer asks Behavioral Interview Questions.

The purpose of behavioral interview questions is to get information about how the interviewees behaved in the past.


Through such knowledge, the interviewers can get a sense of how the employee will behave in the future. Does every interviewer want to know if the employee can work well with their organization?


These are some of the interview questions:

Tell us about a time when your company or team was undergoing some changes. How did that affect you, and how did you adjust?


Can you tell us about a long-term project that you handled? How were you able to keep everything moving and meet along with time?


Describe a time when you did not meet a client’s expectation. What was the cause, and how did you attempt to fix the situation?

Interviewers have different methods of asking a question. But may just reduce to a simple question which begins with: “Can you tell me a time…”.

The purpose of the question is to know if the potential employee will be a good team player. The ability to cooperate is crucial in the workplace, the interviewers are responsible for finding out if the potential employees are cooperative.


The interviewers ask a question like:

Please tell me about a time when you had to work closely with a person who has a different personality with you?


Can you tell us a time you faced a conflict while working on a team? How did you handle such a situation?


Did you seek for information from someone who didn’t respond?



Tell one or two stories which demonstrate your skills and the ability to cooperate with others well.

With the goal to show that they are easy to work with.


Know what teamwork in a job requires. For instance, a new company often employ workers who can work well with others by taking different roles. The multinational company also, like to employ an employee who can easily adjust to their working environment.


Interviewers show their cooperativeness and their ability to help a team succeed by not emphasizing on an individual success but team success.


Demonstrate your joy for the previous teammates, avoid complaint or criticism.

Problem management:

This is one of the questions that are often asked during the interview. This question reveals the ability of the employer in problem-solving. Some of the questions are as follows.


Describe how you were about to cope when there was a change in the system. How were you able to adapt?


What was the most challenging work you have ever handled in the course of your work?

How were you able to relate with a troublesome colleague?

These and some other behavioral questions might be asked during a job interview.



Failure can be very embarrassing. It is one of the most difficult questions to handle. Thus, they require skill to answer them. Interviewers focus on how you address your past failure without giving up on yourself.


These questions are not meant to embarrass you but your interviewers ask to know what your performance was like on your previous jobs, and whether your past failure left a positive lesson with you.


Examples of some of these behavioral questions are:

How was it on you the last time you failed?

Tell me how you were able to come out of your last pressure?

Was leading a group of people easy for you? How were you able to cope?

How were you able to succeed the last time communication was an issue?


Describe the failures honestly. Do not cover a fault arrogantly and never blame others. Rather talk on how the problem enhanced your skill and made you more capable. However, never talk about detrimental failures only talk about failures that helped you and are related to the future.
